Compared to action games you lose the quick and exciting flow of combat and the potential intricacies of that gameplay style's mechanics (when done well). Compared to turn-based combat you lose the clearly-defined turns to plan around, and due to how the game's targeting works doing much actual positioning in combat can be a huge pain.
